Decision 2012 @ SAC

Education is the Key for a Better Economy

Are my classes going to be dropped if no money is turned in on the deadline for payment? I bet this question went thought so many stressed students who worried about school and tuition. America’s economy has been struggled for a few years now, and one way the issue could be solve is to either give our current president, Barack Obama, more time as his second term to be the President to help the United States be more stable. However, some people think that it’s best to elect a new president because Obama did not do well on the last four years. Mitt Romney, a governor from Massachusetts, is the candidate that some American believes that with his new ideas could bring America back in track. Both candidates concerns are related to money issues for example: healthcare, immigration, tax, gay marriage, wars, and many more. According to Obama’s hope to raise the economy, the United States will need to increase the basic education to a higher standard for the requirement to participate in most of the job’s position to get back the economic strength. In this case, two goals from Obama are for the world to know America will have the highest college graduates and 5 million graduates will be coming from the community colleges.

Obama believes that one way to help the American economy get better is to provide more opportunities for college students to graduate in higher percentages. If President Obama wins the election again, he will try to help the students graduate and reach up to the world’s economy so America can have a better and higher economic standard. According to the titled, “Building American Skills Through Community Colleges,” here is what Obama did to help out most people in need, “Last July, President Obama proposed the American Graduation Initiative to invest in community colleges and help American workers get the skills and credentials they need to succeed. The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act includes $2 billion over four years for community colleges and career training. These resources will help community colleges and other institutions develop, improve, and provide education and training, suitable for workers who are eligible for trade adjustment assistance.” Even education is a dream for some people, but I believe there is always help out there. According to Valerie Strauss published on September 6, 2012 in The Washington Post with the titled, “What Obama said about education in speech” gave us exactly on Obama’s viewed, “And now you have a choice – we can gut education, or we can decide that in the United States of America, no child should have her dreams deferred because of a crowded classroom or a crumbling school. No family should have to set aside a college acceptance letter because they don’t have the money. No company should have to look for workers in China because they couldn’t find any with the right skills here at home.” There are chances for everybody to earn education.

Everybody has their own point of view, and President Obama’s plan on education to help American students. Here are some pros and cons from the voters towards the candidate, President Barack Obama. Not only people who are politic care about this important event happen every four years. Oprah is a famous TV show host and showed her view toward this term because presenting from Nyan Bhushan on January 23, 2012 from The Hollywood Reporter contained a titled, “Oprah Winfrey: “I Feel Very Strongly That Obama Will Remain in Office.” Here was what Oprah says to show her trust and encourages Obama,

Of course you make mistakes. You are walking into the White House. You have the whole world watching you, and he is a man. And I mean that in the best way, he is a man, meaning a world leader, he's not a God. And so as a man you make mistakes in the world sometimes. I think the world forgot that we were on the brink of a depression in our country and nobody knew whether we were going to have bread lines, maybe that's an exaggeration. But he was able to stop that from happening... I think that it’s a difficult job and I think that his next four years are going to be even more successful for our country and that people are going to get back to work. It’s going to be a really good thing that he remains in office. I feel very strongly that he will remain in office. I am not being overly confident about it but when you look at the other party, I'm just saying...,

Nobody is perfect and that’s why Oprah believes that Obama deserves to continue to help America get better with education.

According to Jon Fortenbury published on October 25th, 2012 in the USA Today College with the titled, “Obama vs. Romney: Who’s better for financial aid?” presenting both pros and cons toward Obama’s education plan. As long as students pay their loans regularly after 10 to 20 years the remainder money will be erased, “He’s making higher education attainable to everyone, not just the privileged few,” Obama’s plan makes education affordable for everyone not a dream that’s hard to reach. However, as Lauran Regenhardt a graduate student on Romney’s side says, “With the job market as bad as it is, I don’t see how Obama’s plans are going to help current college students,” and continued “there are lot fewer jobs for college students now than there were before.” Disagreeing with Obama’s plan with the fact that our government is already in bad shape and for students that depend on the Government for more money will make America have a bigger debt. Obama’s education plan probably upsets all of the companies who loan money to students to pay for their tuition and other needs. According to Mark Koba published on May 29, 2009 in the CNBS with the titled “Obama’s Education Plan: ABCs For Reform” stated, “The losers will be financial institutions like Citigroup and Bank of America who have made big profits over the years from student loans, they won’t like this very much.” Since loan companies have been charged with high rate of interest on student loans so for sure those loan companies won’t be pleased with Obama’s plan.

What should we think about Obama’s position on education? In my opinion, I think Obama’s position on education is important for America to have a strong foundation to create more jobs and better knowledge. According to Manali Oak updated on November 24, 2011 on Buzzle with the titled “Why is Education So Important,” pointed out how important education is, “The future of a nation is safe in the hands of educated individuals. Education is important for the economic growth of a nation. It fosters principles of equality and socialism. It forms a support system for individuals to excel in life. It is the backbone of society.” A country with educated citizens will be able to untangle the issue because of their well-structured education. The higher the education the better job you will hold and the louder voice people will hear. This quote is from the same source on Buzzle website like the first quote:

Education is important because it equips us with all that is needed to make our dreams come true. It opens doors to brilliant career opportunities. It fetches better prospects in career and growth. Every employer today requires his prospective employees to be well-educated. He requires expertise. So, education becomes an eligibility criterion for employment in any sector of the industry. We are rewarded for exercising the expertise required for the field we venture. We are weighed in the market on the basis of our educational skills and how well we can apply.

Basic people with education could find jobs that are more interesting, have higher pay, and don’t have to physically work as much. Also, educated people are likely to understand different situations and could wrap them up quickly. Education never ends and it will continue to the rest of your life as long as you are still capable to obtain more knowledge. I hope that Obama wins this election so he could provide American students opportunities to attend college for a better job and many other benefits like insurance and retirement plans. With education I could support my family with a high salary and I could work on a career that I like because I’ve seen somewhere that it say, “working on the field that you love is like never working for a day in your life.”
